Released 17th April 2026, Washing Machine by Neat Cubes is “about an high performance washing machine thats a joy to use and watch in action. A washer dryer, actually.”

“The first section represents the beginning of its cycle. The middle section is when it goes into supersonic spin speed, before resolving into its final phase of the cycle. After its completion, we aurally witness the clothes recovering from the ordeal.”
Composed and recorded in a kitchen, in the presence of said washing machine, the band comment: “we developed a chord progression that reflected the washing machine’s power, efficiency, and elegance as it shifts through gears during the various stages of a cycle. We then did our best to compose a fitting melody around the arrangement. The end bit of the melody, “dur dur dur dur dududur dur dur dur dur dur”, we’re not too sure about, and makes me cringe a bit. But it’s done now, and we’re not going back. Maybe we’ll try harder next time.”
The video, a deeply moving tale of love, war, and loss, has nothing to do with washing machines, and appears to be more a comment on apathy and ignorance. Its production is uncredited, and apparently may soon be removed depending on the outcome of court action.
The technology behind the video is called Remotion, which is more suited to websites, and typically carried out by coders. But in this case it was AI that did the actual work under the instruction of the director.
FYI: “Remotion is an open-source framework that enables developers to create videos and motion graphics programmatically using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and CSS.”
Whatever.
Do support independent music, and specifically, the Neat Cubes, by buying Washing Machine on Bandcamp. They’ll probably carry on regardless, anyway.
