Today sees the release of a new Buried Heads song, Easy Listening. As the title suggests, the track is influenced by the easy listening genre, with hints of 60’s pop and psychedelia. A slow to mid tempo beat and jangly acoustic guitar sets a feel-good summer instrumental tone, while a fuzz-jazz guitar meanders to the lush ‘la la’ vocal-laden chorus. It’s a perfect backing track to an idyllic, never ending dream holiday in the sun.

The band say this is actually a very old composition that was never finished. Having recently unearthed it, for a song that involved so much effort, and a vision of sorts, it would be a shame to not release it in some form or other.
Most parts of the song were recorded over ten years ago in a flat in North West London. Due to the slapdash approach that was common in those heady days, many of the tracks suffered from background noise. Luckily modern digital tools allowed the Heads to restore the problematic parts to a broadcast-friendly standard.
“You could hear birds singing, cars passing by, and the whistle of a nostril. It was quite beautiful, and a shame to remove such artefacts. Essentially it’s a frozen point in time, as all recordings are. But this is personal. I remember it quite clearly. It wasn’t the best, or the worst of times. But hard times were to follow, that we’re only emerging from now. There’s a naivety in this song in that it was intended to encompass nothing but good vibrations, it was well-meaning, without ego, that it would bring good to us, and others… Nowadays, we’re still on a quest to create something that is pure and good, that can be enjoyed by all. We appreciate that, in terms of the perfect pop song, this isn’t it. And we embrace this ongoing challenge”
Easy Listening by Buried Heads is out now on Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms from the 24th April 2023.
